Hello, for those of you doing credit checks, do  you use a form where a potential/new client authorizes for you to run a credit check? A lot of clients end up not paying their bills so we'd like to have an idea of the financial stability of a business before working with them. Any ideas?

    Hi Evelyn -

We do have a form in our New Client packet that prospective clients sign, and it gives us authorization to check their credit.  However, I am not sure that you actually need their authorization to check their credit.  We have an account with Dun & Bradstreet and check just about every client and or prospect's credit.  They never ask us for any authorization form.

We always check a prospective client's credit record before doing business with them.

Hope that helps.  Have a good one!

I'll second Carl's comments... we also use D&B information to help make client credit decisions.

We do not require any kind of forms be completed in order to check the credit.  Once you have access to D&B, you can simply run a search of their database for the client (there's no "hard pull" like you would in doing a credit check with FICO score check for an employee).

If you're leveling up your credit management processes, I'd also suggest considering credit insurance to hedge your receivables.

    Hello Evelyn,

I agree with Carl and Jason.  One alternative credit checking source, specific to staffing is AER. https://www.aeremail.com/credit-screens.  Might be an alternative to some smaller companies that don't have much on D&B.
