    Posted 02-01-2023 12:03

    Hello all,

I am curious how do you deal with commissions in your company.

I am interested if you are using excel to calculate & present commissions or do you use a commission portal?

If commission portal is used, which portal do you use and what is your feedback? What were the main reasons that made you switch to a commission portal?

If you are using excel, do you send commission amounts to approve to each individual consultant or just top managers in a summary format?

Thank you, your input is much appreciated.

    Hi Julia!

We are still using Excel to calculate commissions.  The Finance team reviews them for accuracy and then we send each commission report to the individual and all reports to the CEO.  The gross profit reports are sent to the individuals, CEO, and each person's manager.

Although a commission portal would probably be valuable for scalability and time saved, I do appreciate the flexibility of Excel.

Hi Julia, we utilize CaptivateIQ for our commission calculations. We moved from Excel calculations to their software in 2019 and could not be happier with their capabilities and support.  Let me know if you would like an introduction to them.

Hi Julia, apologies for the late response.

We are using Bilflo for commission allocation. They have been a great help to our staffing firm, we reduced back office labor and money since we used their software. You can reach out to arly@bilflo.com if you want to discuss their software further.

If Excel is working and you are able to calculate quickly and accurately, there is no shame in using a tool that works.

    Hi Julia,

We are small and are still using excel. We build simple excel calculators for individuals that they enter their details into. Managers verify the numbers and submit to payroll. I've done it this way at a few companies and it usually helps uncover if there are any issues early. We've also found that commission just needs to be simple in order for it to be effective and that leads to simpler calculations.
