Hoping someone can offer some insight on our new ATS evaluation. We've narrowed it down to Bullhorn and Avionte, and would love to hear from anyone that chose one over the other and why. I appreciate your feedback!

    Hi Carly,

We switched from Avionte to Bullhorn and went live a little over a year ago. Here is my take:

Actual software: Bullhorn is superior. The workflows are smooth, they integrate with virtually anyone, and the admin is easy to use. Canvas reporting is a bit tough, but they have firms that you can pay to create custom reports. The founder is still the CEO so the company has a solid and consistent vision.

Service after the Sale: Avionte is superior. Brigid Isenmann, Director of Customer Experience, takes her position seriously and ensures that the support and product teams are delivering for the customers. The culture, although lacking direction when we left, is based on customer experience and it shows. The people I worked with there will bend over backwards for their customers. Avionte is now owned by a private equity firm, and with John Long now out of day-to-day operations the original founders are no longer running the business. When we were with them, this resulted in an inconsistent/clouded strategic vision.

Good luck in the search! Whatever direction you go, get as much of the implementation in writing, and interview your project manager before accepting them. Estimates can rise very fast if every aspect is not spelled out ahead of time in the SOW. In addition,  your project manager will make or break your implementation. We had a fantastic Project Manager at Avionte, but our Bullhorn project manager was checked out and we did not realize it until we were too close to go-live. Motivation and "grit" in a project manager far outweigh experience.

Erik, this is great information. Despite your poor experience with your project manager at Bullhorn, are you happy you made the switch?

    For the most part, yes.

Bullhorn has the capacity to handle volume that Avionte didn't, and their ability to integrate with virtually anyone opens our options when it comes to supplemental tech vendors. Even though support is a struggle, good software tends to need less support, and Bullhorn is good software. We are also fortunate to have a strong Account Manager. If you have not already met him, ask about Eric Scalese. When I hit a wall with support he is generally able to work the backend and make things happen.

If you haven't already decided, you should look at UltraStaff Edge by Automated Business Designs (ABD).  Edge is a great product, my entire team is very happy with it (and we are a very picky bunch!)  ABD is a women-owned company, extremely responsive, you can actually get the owner on the phone if you need to (which you won't).  Working with ABD is so much easier than working with big, impersonal companies.  I would be happy to share our experience with you if you'd like.

I have used both Avionte & Bullhorn and can tell you that hands down Bullhorn has the best customer service of any product I have ever used. Their platform allows you to customize many of your recruiting needs increasing productivity and saving time. Their team is willing to coach and provide follow up articles for a train the trainer option as well.

While the cost difference between the platforms lends to an obvious difference, I do believe the price indicates the increased functionality and user friendly, intuitive platform that Bullhorn provides.

I am also familiar that Avionte's new platform, BOLD has been released which mimics much of the user friend, intuitive options of Bullhorn, but am not aware of the price comparison on BOLD.

The back-office is one area that Bullhorn needs to improve (I have not demo'd the new back-office), but otherwise is very easy to integrate with other supporting programs. Avionte's back-office is very robust.

I would be happy to provide more feedback. Please, reach out to me at tfeeley@thejobcenterstaffing.com.

Carly, I think it's a critical part of the ATS selection process to ask others about their experiences with both systems. One of the great things about ASA Central is getting valuable feedback from others in the staffing industry. Just a couple things to consider when factoring this feedback in with your decision:
    • Both Bullhorn and Avionte have introduced new versions of their system in the past couple years. So it is likely (particularly with Avionte) that the system others were on was a previous release. Both Avionte Bold and Bullhorn Novo are significantly different than their previous versions.
    • Systems work differently for staffing firms based on staffing verticals, company size, processes, internal training and support, and even just personal preference
    • Successful implementation is heavily based on both the ATS project manager and your internal team assigned to implementation. Your current system and database size/age/accuracy also play a significant role in how difficult or complicated the data migration is.
I'm happy to speak with you more if you have any specific questions. Good luck!

    Hello Carly,
We are a former client of Bond & Bullhorn, then transitioned to Avionte 3 years ago.  We are currently on Avionte Classic, which has provided us a powerful front and back-office solution with scores of integrations.  The comprehensive reporting capabilities that Avionte offers has far surpassed our prior vendors which are so critical for our company.  I am very pleased with our account rep and the Avionte support team, the response time and urgency to questions or issues. We recently attended Avionte's user meeting and learned more about Avionte Bold, which offers more options, more features, and increased abilities.  There is no comparison to our other experiences especially Bullhorn.   I would also add that Avionte does have a clear strategic plan, Karl Florida and his team has relayed this in extensive detail.  Please reach out if you would like further details or have questions.

    Carly,
We have been with Avionte for almost 4 years  and love it. We were with Temps plus and they were terrible. We have had several staff members from other companies join us over the past few years that had used Bullhorn with previous employers. They have all been happy with Avionte. With the new platform of Bold coming out I feel they will be a clear leader in the next few years.

    Hope this helps

    Carly

We implemented Bullhorn at the beginning of the year with their new Novo release.  Our experience has been less than optimal and are second guessing our decision.  We are 100% in healthcare and the promised/communicated features are just not there today.  I'd be happy to take the conversation off line and provide more detailed information.

    Hi Carly,

I'm very familiar with Avionte and Bullhorn, both very popular choices. There are a few main things you have to keep in mind when choosing recruiting technology. It should provide mobility, speed up the fill process, and eliminate redundancies in the process. Most importantly, it should be a platform that's designed for the candidates you are looking for. Once all of these line up, you may find which recruiting technology is best for you. I hope this helps.

You may reach out to me at sammysingh@wurknow.com and I would be happy to provide more assistance and feedback.

    Hi Carly,
I would ask your team who will be working with it each day a few questions to help you decide; you have it narrowed down to 2 great choices.
What processes will this new software automate that we currently do manually?
How much time will that save us and what do we want to do with that time? (Ie drive revenue, spend more time with clients etc)
Will this software integrate and talk to our other tech (Worker deployment, LMS, etc) correctly or will we be trading off one manual process or workaround for another?

The staffing industry has an incredibly high internal staff churn, 40% I believe, and the majority of them say it's due to their company having outdated or frustrating software so you are already taking a step in the right direction by evaluating and updating. I would just check with the people who will use it most to make sure it works for them. Otherwise, we know, a team that doesn't like the software will find every possible way to not use it :)

This is a very helpful thread as I am also considering a switch to a different software system and have been looking at both of these products.  I especially interested in one that can handle both healthcare and administrative staffing.

We have been using Avionte' since 2014 and are pleased.  We selected Avionte' over Bullhorn because we wanted both the front and back office functions in one platform.  We use Aero and are excited about the newer update, BOLD, which will be out soon.  Every platform has its glitches, but when we have had issues the support and service we have received has been good.

We have been on Avionte' since 2012. We recently reviewed our software choices and have chosen to stay with Avointe' and transition to the BOLD platform. For us a huge deciding factor was payroll in Avionte'. Because we process payroll in Avionte' we do not have a separate charge per payee. My background is 25+ years in technology, and only 18 months in staffing. So I will give you some general rules I live by.

1.Take implementation cost and multiply 1.5
    2. Take timeline and multiply by 1.5 (See a pattern. Worse case you come in under budget and on time if you plan this way.)
    3. Don't ask the vendor if it can do ' X Y Z'. Ask the vendor can the base product do 'X Y Z' without modification.
    4. Software is only as good as the training and the processes. Don't skimp on either.
