Can you believe that 2020 is almost here? Next year I will celebrate my 25th year as a volunteer in some capacity with ASA. I started volunteering at the state level and for the last 20 years volunteering in various roles at the national level as well as the state level.
The value of volunteering is hard to measure. The knowledge I've gained from industry guru's, the business insights I've learned from various executives and the lifelong relationships that have been made from many of you… it's impossible to put a price tag on. I've lived by the principle that it is better to give than to receive and that has paid off in my business career. One can not out give what you can receive when you put others first as well as volunteering for your industry association.
In 2020 I will be chairing the Professional-Managerial Section as well as being involved with various volunteer opportunities such as the chapters, education and direct hire sections/committees. I hope to see you on one of these calls and at a state or national event.
The difference between being ordinary or extraordinary is just a little "extra"! Be extraordinary with your volunteering in 2020!
John, First, bravo on your accomplishments as Volunteer of the Year for ASA. What a huge difference you have made for so many. As a volunteer myself, over the past few years, I have learned and gained so much; new friendships, business partnerships, access to information, all of which have made a difference in our success. Being an ASA volunteer has given me the great opportunity to give back to an industry and a community that has done so much for me over the years. Additionally, volunteering helps bring pride to our field teams and company. My participation has lead to many others in our organization "leaning in" and stepping into their own volunteer experience. I have watched several team members elevate themselves professionally through their volunteer efforts. I look forward to continuing my volunteer journey in 2020. It's my hope that 2020 is a record-setting year for volunteerism at ASA."We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference" Nelson Mandela
Congratulations, John! Our industry is incredibly competitive, and what I think is so great about volunteering and being involved is that we set aside that competition with each other and work towards elevating one another and our industry as a whole. There is so much potential for our businesses, that when we work together and learn from one another we can achieve more, and impact more. I genuinely encourage anyone who doesn't currently volunteer to check out the opportunities available to you and choose something that works for the time you have available.
Cheers to you, John and to kicking off 2020! -Heather
