  • 1.  Not Holiday Bonuses/Bonuses given to work during the pandemic

    Posted 12-23-2020 12:30

I was wondering how other agencies deal with clients wanting to give bonus's as an incentive to work, how do you recoup your cost for giving bonuses. Right now all my clients are offering bonuses for all shifts due to the pandemic and we as an organization must still pay W/C and match all taxes so in essence we are losing $ on each bonus . Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Anytime we have clients that want to give our temps a bonus we add a markup to it.  Same markup that we use for payrolling candidates so that it covers the base + taxes and WC costs.  It is at a lower markup than regular pay and we dont count that bonus towards any hours worked

So to be clear, the client only reimbursing you for the gross amount of the bonus? If so, yes, that's a losing proposition. At the very least, you should get your clients to agree to pay the fully loaded cost as a pass-through. Better is to get a reduced markup. Best is to get full markup. You probably need to review your service agreement and be sure to address this so you can close this gap.

We have had a few clients that want to provide bonuses as well.  We always mark it up to cover our cost of taxes and worker's compensation.  I used to put the full markup on a bonus, but have recently reduced it to cover our cost, plus a cushion.
