    Hi Everyone,

I hope you are staying healthy and safe over these last 6 months. I was excited to see Staffing World Trivia starting up again and can’t wait for this year’s event.  Although we’re not going to be physically together in Nashville this year. I got a sneak peak of the SW virtual experience, and I have to say that it is awesome!

As someone who has attended a few virtual events so far, they definitely take some adjustments to get the most out of them.  I don’t want to miss out on anything, so I really have to prepare in advance in order to fully engage.

With that in mind, I wanted to share a few of my personal “best practices” and tips for a good conference experience.

Register Early:   This may not seem like a “tip” since you probably will not be leaving your house (so what’s the rush, right?). But if you’re anything like me, if I don't commit it might not happen, and then I miss out.

Plan ahead and block off time:  We may not be hoping on a plane, navigating a convention center, or putting up our "Out of Office" (if you can, do it!), but we are still attending an event. Take the time you would normally use booking travel accommodations to review the event schedule and sessions. If you aren't able to completely unplug from your day to day, make sure you plan and block your calendar for the parts of the event that you want to attend. Doing this in advance can (as much as possible) help you avoid some of those last-minute meeting requests.

Bring your own network: Networking and meeting new people is a huge part of virtual events. It can also be great to bring others from your organization that know will benefit. This allows for you to share the knowledge, usually save some money, and you can divide and conquer to maximize the number of sessions and connections you can make. This year, we are bringing our entire group of franchise owners, and I can't wait for them to experience this awesome event, and hopefully meet all of you.

What did I miss? I'd love to know how you have prepared for virtual events or better yet, how you plan to prepare for SW so you can really engage with the content and experience?

I look forward to hearing your very own “tips and tricks” and hope to see you at Staffing World next month!

    Jason

    Hi Jason -
Here are a few things that I am or have done to prepare for virtual conferences:

    1. Review the agenda ahead of time and plan out which sessions you are going to attend.  Use your calendar with reminders so that you don't miss out.
    2. Networking - Have LinkedIn open on your computer or the app open on your smart phone.  Meet someone you are interested in connecting with?  Send them a LinkedIn request to connect.
    3. Turn off your email and other work while attending.  Tell your office(s) when you will be able to communicate - treat it just like you were out of the office at the in-person conference.
    4. Participate!  Share in the chat and discussions.
    5. Have a system for taking notes from the presentation and a place to keep track of action items.  When the conference is over you will have actionable takeaways that you can act on
    6. Visit the exhibitors to find out what is new and hot with services and technology for the industry.  You don't want to be last to the party with technology or innovation.

Can't wait to connect at #staffingworld2020!
