5 Common Staffing Agency Misconceptions

How did Florida staffing agencies get a less than stellar reputation?

As the economy fluctuates, more and more companies are seeking the aid of employment agencies. According to Frontline Source Group, as many as 90% of companies use, or have used, a staffing service.  It may be the future of hiring and job seeking, and that would beneficial to all parties involved.

There are a lot of preconceived notions about Florida employment agencies, temp agencies, contract recruitment agencies, and the like, and many people tend to assume things that are simply not true. We would like to dispute these false claims with facts and data in the hopes that we can change at least a few peoples’ opinions. Here are some complaints that we frequently hear through working in the staffing industry.

  1. “Don’t work with a staffing agency; they’ll take half your paycheck!”

Many people assume that if they work with a temp agency they will be ripped off. They think the company will pay them a lower wage, and then the agency gets the rest of their paycheck for their services. This is completely false information. At HH Staffing, we complete all of the hiring and HR work so our clients do not have to do it all themselves. We are essentially the middle man between connecting talented and qualified candidates with our respected clients. However, because of the way the contract is set up, the money is not really taken from your pay, but rather it is a fee that the client pays the temp agency.

  1. “‘Free’ doesn’t really mean no cost.”

These days when companies offer free promotions, there are usually some strings attached. They will ask you to sign up for a free trial and provide your credit card information, but you will not be charged unless you decide to continue with their service. Just a little suspicious. Working with a staffing agency as a job seeker is one of the few things in life that is truly free. There is no charge to the employee, you will never see a bill, and they do not take a percentage of your paycheck. Like we said above, the contract is set up with the employer.

  1. “I’m not the kind of person who would use a temp agency.”

We are not sure how this stigma with employment agencies got started, but for some reason certain people turn up their noses at temp agencies, like they are buying a used car or something. Temp agencies do not do all the work for you. They connect you with the right people, coach you, and then the rest is truly up to you. Perhaps you will feel better knowing that over 70% of HH Staffing’s temporary positions turn permanent.

  1. “An interview with a staffing agency is not a ‘real interview’.”

Many people believe that an interview with a recruiter is not a real interview. We beg to differ! You want to give your recruiter an excellent first impression, so they can effectively market you to their clients. We would recommend that you do not wear a t-shirt, cutoff jeans, flip flops, or your gym clothes. Try to clean yourself up to look as professional as possible. Dress for the job you want, and you will be taking a step in the right direction. Remember, you can never go wrong with a classic suit.

  1. “I can find a job more quickly and easily on my own.”

As we said, 90% of companies use staffing agencies, and a percentage of them ONLY use staffing agencies. Some organizations work directly with recruiters and never advertise the position on their own, so working with a staffing agency would be the only chance the job seeker would have to even know about an opportunity. At HH Staffing, we can save you time by presenting you to multiple companies at once. Through coaching you and examining your resume, we may able to see a role for you that you had not thought of for yourself. There are no guaranteed hires, as circumstances are determined by your skill level and our availability. We can place a person within 24 hours to a couple weeks, which is on par with the national average of 22.5 days from time of interview to offer.

Hope this information has been enlightening for you and has cleared up some of your staffing agency misconceptions. Although staffing agencies are for profit, as we all have to make a living, HH Staffing always works with our candidates’ best interests in mind.
