2019 has certainly been a tumultuous year. What with the Brexit shenanigans over in the U.K., and the ongoing trade wards here in the U.S.; it’s no wonder then that professionals are nervous about moving jobs.

Indeed, the national employment rate is at an all time high. With more people in work than ever before, it’s good news for the economy, but not so good news for organizations that are struggling to hire.

As we move into the final two months of the year, it’s a good time to take stock of your current hiring practices and consider how you can source the right talent in 2020 and beyond. To help you out, we’ve pulled together some best practice advice.

Use Resume Databases

Naturally, we’re going to be biased with this. But, resume databases hold masses amount of candidate data; people that are either actively looking for work, or might be open to an opportunity should you approach them.

The type of job board you use will depend on your hiring needs. While some companies can afford to use a generic site, others may need to go for one that’s a little more niche. Either way, it’s important to negotiate a package that fits your hiring needs.

When using these tools, it’s a good idea to get to grips with the most effective ways to source candidates. The Boolean method of searching, for example, can be extremely beneficial, and is pretty easy to get to grips with once you understand it.

But, if you’d rather sit back and let these sites do the work for you, we have good news. Many job boards are investing in new technology to make it easier to find the right candidates. For example, we recently launched a Resume Search Builder in the U.K. and will be rolling it out in the U.S. next year; making it easier than ever to find candidates that meet a specific criteria.

Tailor Your Approach

Another important factor to focus on in 2020 is how you approach candidates. We know that working professionals hold more power than they ever have before; they decide when they’re ready to move jobs and there’s sometimes little you can do to influence their decision.

For this reason, there’s no use firing out generic emails to a large volume of candidates. Think how you feel when you receive a marketing email that you know has been sent to hundreds, if not thousands, of other people? It probably goes straight to your trash.

How you approach candidates about job opportunities is extremely important. Really look at the experience they’ve gained so far and pick out a few elements that have impressed you. Maybe they’ve lead on a number of exciting campaigns and you’re looking for someone to do the same in the role you’re hiring for?

Whatever it is, be sure to highlight why the opportunity you have is the right fit for them. Paint the picture of them in the role; if they can vision it, they’ll be more likely to consider it.

Sell the Role and Company

Following on from the above, if you want to get ahead with your hiring efforts in 2020, you’ll need to be able to sell the role and company effectively. After all, why should a candidate whose perfectly happy in their current role want to up sticks and start a new position? Put yourself in their shoes.

As part of this, it’s important to identify what makes the company stand out. Is it offering some up and coming workplace perks that no other organization is yet? Is the role a new position that they’ve introduced because of phenomenal company growth?

Alongside this, does it have a particularly great social media presence that can do the talking for you? If so – great! You can point candidates in the direction of these profiles and even the company’s careers page if that’s engaging.

As a staffing professional, you should already know how to sell a role to a candidate. But if you want to make sure you hire the right person and stand out from the crowd, you’ll need to up your game.

Source the Best Talent in 2020 and Beyond

Of course this by no means an extensive list and there are definitely a number of other approaches you can take to help attract more candidates to your roles. But hopefully these tips should give you some food for thought for hiring in 2020.
