ASA Care Awards

Show That You Care

The ASA Care Awards recognize outstanding corporate social responsibility initiatives among ASA member companies and affiliated chapters. Corporate social responsibility initiatives can encompass policies, programs, or specific projects within companies and with external partners.

A panel of corporate social responsibility experts will select winners in six categories: One staffing firm with less than $7.5 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with $7.5–$25 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with $ 25–$100 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with more than $100 million in annual sales, one associate member (a company that provides products or services to the staffing industry), and one ASA-affiliated chapter.

Corporate social responsibility initiatives submitted for consideration could involve, but are not limited to, one or more of the following components:

  • Employees (e.g., wages, benefits, training and professional development, diversity practices, health and safety procedures, and family-friendly policies)
  • Clients (e.g., consumer and community engagement)
  • Suppliers (e.g., labor practices, environmental impact, and diversity)
  • Core business practices (e.g., products and services, legal compliance, and innovation)
  • Finance (e.g., investments and savings)
  • Environment (e.g., energy use, buildings, vehicles, construction practices, travel, and recycling)
  • Governance (e.g., policies, standards, board diversity, stakeholder engagement, and reporting)
  • Philanthropy (e.g., corporate community involvement, employee volunteer programs, contributions, or involvement with Preparing Tomorrow's Work Force—an ASA program that provides career alternatives to at-risk students)

American Staffing Association Honors Corporate Social Responsibility Stars With 2014 ASA Care Awards
The American Staffing Association recognized four member staffing firms, one associate member, and one ASA-affiliated chapter with ASA Care Awards for outstanding corporate social responsibility initiatives. The winners will be formally honored Oct. 13 at Staffing World® 2014, the ASA convention and expo, in the Washington metropolitan area.

A panel of independent corporate social responsibility specialists selected the ASA Care Award winners in six categories:

Staffing Firm Members With $100 Million+ in Annual Sales
Volt Workforce Solutions"Volt Military Heroes Program" provides employment resources and other support to military personnel transitioning to civilian life. Among other objectives, Volt pledged to hire 2,000 former military personnel in 2013 per the First Lady's Office Joining Forces Initiative (goal surpassed to 3,138 hires), employ 10,000 veteran and military spouses over the five years beginning in 2014, and provide training to National Guard/Reserve employment teams and soldiers. As part of the program, Volt created militaryjobnetworks.com/ for company recruiters to more easily search job descriptions against military titles/roles. It also hosts no-cost workshops—like recruiter boot camps for National Guard recruitment teams and résumé preparation and job searching workshops—and utilizes social media and its website to create online support networks and provide a variety of resources to veterans.

Staffing Firm Members With $25 Million–$100 Million in Annual Sales
Innovative Employee Solutions"Community Outreach Initiative" was created to measure corporate philanthropy and service efforts, communicate these efforts to targeted audiences, and meaningfully celebrate accomplishments with its team. The company chose the San Diego YWCA, American Cancer Society of San Diego, and Junior Achievement as its beneficiaries, and set an initial goal of logging 200 collective employee volunteer hours in 2013. This goal was easily surpassed and, by the end of the year, employees volunteered for a total of 337 hours. IES also donated 8% of its net profit to charitable organizations last year. The program has measurably strengthened employee engagement, recruiting, and client relations goals.

Staffing Firm Members With $7.5 Million–$25 Million in Annual Sales
Rangam Consultants"Rangam Cares" program addresses shortcomings in the special-needs school education system specific to students with autism. Fifty Rangam employees in the U.S. and India are involved in the firm's autism-related corporate social responsibility initiatives. Its subsidiary unit, WebTeam Corp. worked with New Jersey Institute of Technology students to develop approximately 100 mobile apps that help health care providers and educators screen, teach, and measure the progress of individuals on the autism spectrum. In addition, Rangam partners with local and national special-needs educational institutes and autism advocacy organizations to promote employment for people with autism.

Staffing Firm Members With Less Than $7.5 Million in Annual Sales
Select People Solutions"23 Days of Christmas" initiative has raised more than $100,000 for Meals on Wheels Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada) since 2009. Meals on Wheels is a volunteer-driven organization that delivers hot, midday meals to house-bound seniors. Before the involvement of Select People Solutions, the organization was on the brink of closing its doors due to a $15,000 budget deficit. To remedy the situation, Select People Solutions sought sponsorships from employees, partners, and clients to fund all meals delivered in December. The company also secured media sponsorships to help promote the good work of the charity and the program on television and radio, and in print. Every member of Select People Solutions is involved in this annual program.

Associate Members (Supplier to the Staffing Industry)

"Staffing and recruiting firms across the U.S. believe in giving back, and have made corporate social responsibility a key value and important part of their company cultures.
