Show That You Care
The ASA Care Awards recognize outstanding corporate social responsibility initiatives among ASA member companies and affiliated chapters. Corporate social responsibility initiatives can encompass policies, programs, or specific projects within companies and with external partners.
A panel of corporate social responsibility experts will select winners in six categories: One staffing firm with less than $7.5 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with $7.5–$25 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with $ 25–$100 million in annual sales, one staffing firm with more than $100 million in annual sales, one associate member (a company that provides products or services to the staffing industry), and one ASA-affiliated chapter.
Corporate social responsibility initiatives submitted for consideration could involve, but are not limited to, one or more of the following components:
- Employees (e.g., wages, benefits, training and professional development, diversity practices, health and safety procedures, and family-friendly policies)
- Clients (e.g., consumer and community engagement)
- Suppliers (e.g., labor practices, environmental impact, and diversity)
- Core business practices (e.g., products and services, legal compliance, and innovation)
- Finance (e.g., investments and savings)
- Environment (e.g., energy use, buildings, vehicles, construction practices, travel, and recycling)
- Governance (e.g., policies, standards, board diversity, stakeholder engagement, and reporting)
- Philanthropy (e.g., corporate community involvement, employee volunteer programs, contributions, or involvement with Preparing Tomorrow's Work Force—an ASA program that provides career alternatives to at-risk students)
American Staffing Association Honors Recipients of 2013 Care Awards
Award Recognizes Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives
This August, the American Staffing Association bestowed ASA Care Awards to two staffing companies and one industry supplier. The awards recognize outstanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives-business processes that produce an overall positive effect on society-among ASA member companies, associate members, and affiliated chapters.
A panel of independent CSR specialists selected the winners in three categories:
Firms With More Than $100 Million in Annual Sales
Health care staffing company AMN Healthcare created its "AMN Community Connections" program, which provides charitable giving, scholarship programs, relief efforts, and team member volunteerism to support initiatives for the underserved, education, and economic development. Last April, a team of AMN doctors, nurses, and executives visited Guatemala to offer their medical services to hundreds of people in need. With assistance from the nonprofit organization HELPS, the team conducted nearly 94 surgeries, 100 dental treatments, and attended to 562 patients in need.
Firms With $25 Million-$100 Million in Annual Sales
Recognizing that the military population faces significant challenges when leaving active duty, Incepture established its InVET (Incepture's Veteran Employment Taskforce) program to advocate for and positively impact the lives of veterans and their families through career counseling, military experience transition, recruiting, and charitable events. Since 2011, the company has interacted with 1,000 veterans seeking employment and has placed many of those veterans in jobs.
Assurance Agency Ltd. established an employee-driven initiative designed to "inspire hope in local communities by becoming actively involved and developing meaningful partnerships with charitable organizations." The company's employees have volunteered 12,600 labor hours at various charitable events, packed approximately 230,000 pounds of food for a local food bank, and created educational scholarships with a total contribution of $560,000.
In addition, honorable mentions were conferred to three staffing firms, two industry suppliers, and one affiliated chapter:
